Cooking with Earthenpots
🍲Kerala (Southwest state India)traditionally embraced a unique style of cooking that was so organic and used so less utensils as compared to today's life style around the world. no wonder more and more people from around the world are drawn towards organic styles of cooking, (a) because they are more fun and (b) they render a unique earthy flavor to your exquisite style of cooking.
It was only a few years ago I was drawn to this particular style of cooking because the taste just sat in my memory after having a very traditional meal in a Kerala household.
The key is you need Earthenpots, manpaathrangal (at least a liter capacity) as it's uniquely called in Kerala. A wooden spatula to keep the organic theme going. The Earthenpots usually are sold with lids but don't you worry a glass or a steel lid works equally well.
When you decide to cook in an earthen pot keep in mind you will gain more than you have bargained for, a whole lot of health benefits, use of minimum resources, less usage of oil, fuel and such.
In our modern households, the gas tops work equally well and efficiently. Though, these are very light weight they need to be handled with utmost love and care. I would not let an elementary aspiring chef handle these types of cookware. ;). You can most definitely store them separate from other heavy utensils as they demand special care and attention. I usually store them on higher shelves or just upper cabinets or open shelves.
My intension of highlighting these types of cooking utensils is solely to make you aware and inspire your everyday cooking.
You can achieve a lot many recipes in these per say. Be it stews, soups, steamed anything, you name it. You could also bake in these, though I have yet to try it. So, what are you waiting for, all hands on deck and let's switch to this style of cooking.
